After hammering the Apple download servers for hours, finally millions got to enjoy the totally new refreshed look bearing iOS 7. The comparison of the iOS 7 with Google Android had sparked way before the former was officially released for the public.

Apple has redesigned the user interface and added over 200 new features to the iOS 7 software update.

We also managed to get our hands on the software update and had a closer look to the iOS 7 software update on iPad Mini tablet. Here is our experience so far with the Apple iOS 7 update.

Complete aesthetic overhaul of the iOS 7 update is indeed the biggest change in the iOS so far. Meanwhile the rival Google Android mobile operating system underwent several face lifts and changes in last six years. We could write endlessly about the new iOS 7 user interface and new features but it would get really tedious to write as well as read. We thus here tried to cover major improvements and changes in the iOS 7.
Look and Feel
The new iOS 7 software looks nothing like any of its predecessors. Apple has loaded the iOS 7 with 'parallax motion effects' so when the user turns or moves the device, the background image along with icons move on the screen to match the movement of the device. It may cause several people to freak out with over responsive user interface. Thankfully Apple has offered an option to reduce the motion throughout the system. The text by default seems slimmer and many might find it difficult to read. Thankfully the text can be made larger and bolder.

Apple has packed plethora of customisation capabilities in the Accessibility section of the Settings app. Fiddling around with that will help the user to make visual changes in appearance of text, effects and much more on the user interface. Right from lockscreen to every button in the system, everything has been flattened and decorated with the Helvetica Neue font. Most of the applications and menus will have a white background with chrome borders. The new font and white background makes the screen appear rich and clean. Right form dialer to keyboard, every aspect of the user interface appears flattened.

Since this is a full overhaul, even the icons have been redesigned and flattened. The design and colour of the icons are different than all previous icons so it may take a while for users to get familiar with them. The animations at times slow down the performance on the iPad Mini which thus becomes sluggish several times. However, changing the wallpaper from dynamic to deep did help a bit. Only those who are accustomed with the iOS user interface would totally feel like home and won't take much time to get used to the user the options.
Getting started with iOS
The most glaring change in the new iOS version is the placement of Spotlight. Now you have to swipe down from the center of the homescreen to find the Spotlight search box. Similarly the Multi-tasking interface has been changed from wiggling icons at the bottom to rich card-based access. Long pressing the Home button brings the list of open apps with icon and snapshot card of the relevant app on top of it. Users can simply tap and push the app card upwards to stop the app.

Control Center is one of the most talked about feature of iOS 7 as well. Swiping upwards from the bottom of the screen reveals a new translucent menu tray - Control Center. All the major controls that require simple toggle or scrolling are available in this tray including Airplane Mode, WiFi, Bluetooth, Rotation Lock, Volume Control, Brightness Control, Music Control, Torchlight, Timer, Calculator, Camera and Air Drop. Apple has introduced a new method of sharing apps and other content between iOS device using AirDrop that provides a secure and fast way to share information. In a way, Control Center will remind you of the inverted Notifications Tray of the Android devices with Settings included.

You will also find an improved Siri which is no more in beta stage. Several new search additions and features have been added to Siri but not even half of those features would be made available in India region. Since Siri takes over the search, Spotlight takes a backseat when it comes to searching content from the web apart from that on the iOS device.

In iOS 7, several native apps have background auto-update feature so that you get the latest weather and stocks information. The Lockscreen now offers access to the Notifications tray along with new Missed for missed calls while the 'Today' feature shows itinerary, weather and other information for that day. Notifications have been improved and appear less intrusively distracting than earlier.

As mentioned earlier, Apple iOS 7 provides several new controls such as Background Application Refresh and customisation options in the Settings app. Apple has attempted to make the iOS 7 more robust and automated in terms of fetching data to show updated information without having the user to refresh an app.
App Refresh
Apple iOS 7 also brings revamped native applications with new look and features in order to raise the standards above the third party apps available in the App Store. Talking about the App Store, Apple has improved this by like about five times. In iOS 7, the App Store can automatically download and update your apps in the background. Of course there is a setting for you to allow that. The App Store is snappier and faster compared to older versions. The iTunes app also is quite responsive when it comes to browsing videos or songs. The download processor on both App Store and iTunes is shown like a Hydrogen Atom model changing itself. At any point of time, the users can share the information with friends over Air Drop.

The Mail and Calendar apps have been updated with the flat style look and responsiveness. The Calendar still has things to learn and adopt from the third party Calendar Apps. Even the Weather app is great looking with the information fetched from Yahoo! Weather.

One of the most important change in the native app occurs in the Camera app. Apple has made this app very fast to load and very easy to use. The Camera app in iOS 7 now offers different formats to choose from - Still, Panorama, Video and Square. The Square format now allows clicking photo in a square dimension by default. Not only that, the new filters can help the user choose the best look for their images. Best part is that the users can choose a filter to see a preview right before clicking an image in both still and square format. Once the photos have been clicked, you can head to the new Photos app that has a smart algorithm to sort all the images by date and location. This classification is tagged as Years, Collections and Moments. Collections are the folders carrying images geo-tagged to specific location. All these photos can be shared using Air Drop and with other users by creating a Shared Stream using iCloud. Clicking pictures is apparently very easy and faster than in previous versions.

Apple Safari mobile browser drops the all grey panels in one single bar at the bottom with back, forward, Air Drop, Reader Mode and Tab view buttons. These buttons are merely depicted using thin lines so one can barely call them buttons. The address bar has been transformed into unified search box so you simply can feed any keyword to search or type out the URL of a website you wish to check out. New Shared links shows list of Twitter updates with URLs shared by the users in your Twitter Timeline. Also, you can add web pages and articles to your Reading List so that you can re-visit them any time. At this moment, iTunes Radio service is limited only to the US region and we hope that it will be available to other regions including India.

The apps did load a wee bit faster than on iOS 6.0 so we see a slight improvement but at times the performance stuttered. Hopefully an update could fix some of the underlying issues and get the iOS 7 fit for everyone. Apple Maps app seems to be little more responsive but that could be over call and we did not dare to venture out using that.

Security of the data is covered with the new Activation Lock feature that requires logging into the iOS device using Apple ID bound to that iPhone in order to unlock it. So if the phone is stolen or lost, the owner can not only lock the device but also make it unusable for anyone.
Final Thoughts
Though we spent just four to five days using the iOS 7 on iPad Mini, it is good enough time to conclude that the update makes the overall experience smooth and interesting. Of course, the lack of buttons and over load of animations as well as motion is disturbing at time but thankfully we can turn them off. Google Android users have seen more makeovers with the operating system than the iOS users. Of course, this is a radical change from the iOS updates of yesteryears to a new, refined, and colourful user interface.

Several changes have happened under the hood which will change things for coming years - for instance, the 64-bit support. That aims to make the iOS platform more fast and robust to handle large data requests and heavy app usage. Apple has realized the growing love of users for the Android's transitions and animations, so the iOS 7 clearly reflects the baby steps to integrate something similar for the iOS 7 platform. Control Center, improved Camera app and better notifications are some of the major improvements that are worth a praise. Like many others, we too have spotted some issues with design and inconsistencies at places but overall iOS experience has been more pleasant.

For those using latest iPhone, iPod touch, iPad mini and iPad, the iOS 7 will certainly change the way your device's user interface looks but does not change the way you interact with it. Installing the iOS 7 on your device will be like taking a power-up to upgrade and boost your performance over the time.

View the original article here
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6653845240390313182.post-85887549279417006202013-10-14T23:37:00.000-07:002013-10-14T23:37:00.309-07:00The Latest Smartphone LG G2 Comes With 2GB RamThe latest buzz in the market is the LG G2 that was recently launched and is now available on Infibeam for INR 43,490/- only. Now the company has launched several Android smartphones. The latest flagship smartphone is the Elife E5, that was launched back in July. The Elife E5 is the second phone in the Elife series. We reviewed the Elife E3 recently and the Elife E6 that was announced last month is coming to India next week. Even this phone lies in the 20k price range, similar to most of the latest phones from Indian companies. It has a BSI sensor. The UI is quite different from the other phones that are powered by a Mediatek chip. There is a camera switch button on the left side, digital zoom adjustment and a settings button below that. On the right side there is a camera to video toggle, on-screen shutter button and an image preview. The camera UI is a bit laggy and a lot of options such as capture modes (Panorama, Multi Angle View (MAV), Face beauty, Best shot and EV bracket shot), Capture Action (Touch shot, Gesture shot and Smile shot), Color effect (Mono, Sepia, Negative, Aqua, Blackboard and Whiteboard). The Phone booth feature adds a frame to photos. There are a lot of other features such as zero shutter delay, continuous shot (40 or 99) and options to adjust the exposure, saturation, brightness, contrast and ISO.

Coming to the image quality, macro images were decent, but the white balance is not proper. Low-light images were not very good, but can use the LED flash, which is decent. Images lacked color details and has pincushion distortion that causes images to be pinched at their center. The front-facing 5-megapixel camera was decent. It can record videos at 720p HD resolution. Check out some camera samples below.

The phone can record videos at 1080p full HD resolution at 30fps. The audio is good, thanks to the secondary microphone, but the video quality was average and lacked details. There are 9 homescreen, you also add or remove the number of home screens by pinching the home screen or from the home screen menu. You can press and hold on the home screen to change the wallpaper and change the desktop settings such as desktop effects, option to enable scroll up and scroll down settings that lets you just just scroll down anywhere in the home screen to bring the notification shade and scroll up to bring the home screen menu.

There are also themes apart from the Android themes. About 470MB of RAM is free when the phone is idle. Out of 16GB of internal storage you get about 10.56 GB and 1.79GB user storage for apps. The phone doesn’t have a SD card slot, but there is a separate area that shows where the app is present. If there is a tick next to the app, it is moved, if not, it is present in the phone memory. Even though some apps have been automatically installed in the SD card, we couldn’t find an option to move the apps to the internal memory.

Apps

The phone comes with a lot of pre-loaded apps and games. It also comes with NQ Mobile security, Yahoo! Instead of standard equalizer settings, this has DTS effects that you can enable from the music player settings. You can also control the Bass boost and 3D effect manually. The phone has FM Radio with auto search, recording but lacks RDS support. Audio from the loudspeaker is decent and the bundled in-ear earphones offers good bass. The default video player can play videos at full HD 1080p resolution.

Calls and Messaging

The dialer and the messaging features are similar to the smartphones from local OEMs, but the colors are different. The common settings has connectivity options that are used often. The connectivity features include, 3G (HSDPA), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth v 4.0 with A2DP and GPS. It has support for wireless display that lets you share content from the phone to a HDTV by connecting a wireless display adapter to a HDMI-enabled TV. It doesn’t come with USB OTG support present in the Micromax Canvas 4. In addition to the scheduled power on & off settings present in the other phones, this also has scheduled airplane mode that lets you turn the airplane mode ON or OFF for a particular time period.

Performance and Benchmarks

The phone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek 6589T processor clocked at 1.5 GHz with PowerVR SGX 544MP2 GPU so the benchmarks would be obviously better than the 1.2 GHz MT6589 chip present in the Elife E3 that we reviewed back in June. We didn’t find any lags while using the phone. Check out some benchmark scores below.

Quadrant Benchmark

The Gionee Elife E5 tops the Quadrant Benchmark when compared to other quad-core smartphones in the similar range.

AnTuTu Benchmark 3.3

Again the Elife E5 tops the AnTuTu Benchmark 3.3 with over 16k points.

Vellamo 2.0 HTML5

The Elife E5 scores over 1600 points in the Vellamo 2 HTML5 browser benchmark.

Check out the complete set of Gionee Elife E5 Benchmarks here.

Gaming

Gaming was decent, but some high-end racing games were not impressive. Asphalt 7 and Riptide GP2 had details and good graphics, but the gameplay was not smooth. Dead trigger, Shadow Gun and Modern Combat 4 had good graphics and the gameplay was smooth. Check out the gaming review of the Elife E5 to find about the gaming performance of the device in detail.

Battery life

Coming to the battery life, the phone packs a 2000 mAh battery. Even though the battery capacity is less than the Xolo Q1000's 2500 mAh battery, the battery life was impressive. Thanks to the CPU power saving mode, you can get a battery life of more than a day with average use. CPU power saving mode limits the CPU performance and lowers the temperature of the device. You can use this when you are not playing games. The System power saving tweaks the display, WiFi, Bluetooth and Auto Sync when the screen is off. You can also enable custom power saving mode that triggers when the battery is down to a certain percent. If you enable the System power saving mode, you can get about 2 days of battery life, which is rare in Android smartphones. Overall we were impressed with the battery life of the smartphone.

Conclusion

Overall, the Elife E5 is definitely a worthy upgrade to the Elife E3. It has good display, has good build quality and a slimmer body. It also offers good battery life and is powered by a faster quad-core processor. The camera could be better and the phone lacks a memory card slot, which are similar constraints that we faced on the Xolo Q1000S that we reviewed recently. At a market price of Rs. 18,999, it is definitely costly compared to other smartphones in this range. If you are looking for a phone with a good display, battery life and build, but can compromise on the camera and the micro SD slot, go for it. You can also consider the Elife E6 wich is all set to launch next week. It is slightly costlier than the E5, but packs a 2GB RAM and a 5-inch full HD display.

Pros
Good displayGood build qualityGood performanceGood battery life

Cons
Average CameraNo expandable memory card slotSmooth back cover makes the device slipperySlightly on the expensive side

View the original article here
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6653845240390313182.post-48620336246454910372013-10-13T07:57:00.000-07:002013-10-13T07:57:00.651-07:00BlackBerry announces BBM for Android and iPhone users - Crave
(Credit: BlackBerry)
Update (September 23, 1130 GMT+8): As it turns out, BlackBerry has delayed the release of BBM indefinitely due to an unofficial version surfacing on the Android. The Mobile Indian
The budget or low cost Android devices market is seeing a number of new products and manufacturers have to try different ways to differentiate theirs. It’s no longer a fight to offer the biggest display with quality and performance for a low price. Chennai based Android device maker iBerry, which started its operations in India in 2011 had announced the launch of the iBerry Auxus Nuclea N1 smartphone in the Indian market earlier this year and it’s the company’s first ever Android smartphone as well. The Auxus Nuclea N1is a 5 inch full HD display based Android smartphone coming from the iBerry brand and to make things interesting it features a quad core processor as well. The Auxus Nuclea N1 is aimed at performance enthusiasts while the price of the smartphone keeps it in the affordable range. But how well does the Auxus Nuclea N1 perform? Named OpenKit, it provides a backend for social features and leaderboards for game developers on both Android and iOS, according to Develop. The good news for developers is that it also has support for the ever-popular Unity engine.

"We're breaking down the silos of vertical services that come with mobile platforms,” reads a joint statement from OpenKit co-founders Lou Zell, Todd Hamilton and Suneet Shah. “OpenKit is the only platform that supports Game Center ids, Google+ ids and Facebook ids, so players can play games with 'real friends' and challenge each other regardless of the type of device and game.”
OpenKit is now live

The OpenKit API is open-source. The new Nokia Lumia 625 is numerically slotted between the Lumia 620 and Lumia 720 but is a totally different device. Of the bunch of new improvements, two of the major ones are a bigger display and 4G LTE network support. The idea of the Lumia 625 is to deliver a blend of premium and budget experience in a single package.

The Nokia Lumia 625 has the largest display among Nokia smartphones just now. Even top of the line Lumia 1020 falls short with a slightly smaller display compared to the Lumia 625. Nokia plans to offer the Lumia 625 in five different colours - black, white, yellow, lime and orange. This time, there is no cyan colour option for this model. Lumia 625 closely resembles the Lumia 720 and gives an easy choice to the consumer for choosing the right device as per display size.

We got our hands on the Lumia 625 smartphone that ships with the new Windows Phone 8 Amber update meant specifically for Lumia devices.
Design
Nokia has used the same sleek and slim design approach for the Lumia 625. To any random user, the first instance with the colours of Lumia 625 brings two things to mind - simple and fun. The simple design does say a lot with the perfectly rounded corners and no sharp edges.

The physical design is consistent with other budget Lumia devices. Rounder corners bearing Lumia 625 has a semi-transparent back shell. It takes utter care and skill to remove the semi-transparent back panel from the body. Also, the shells are changeable, so you can enjoy something Nokia has been offering for years - colour options for shells.

Sporting a rectangular design that curves right at the edges, Lumia 625 also has the edge-to-edge touchscreen display layout. Lumia 625 is 9.2 mm thick and is slightly heavy at 159 grams. In a way, the Lumia 625 seems like a good design mix of the Lumia 720 and Lumia 820 but of course with large display implementation.

The memory card slot and SIM card slot are located under the shell and thus one has to open it carefully. However, the battery is non-removable so you don't have to worry about the phone opening up into pieces if it falls. Unfortunately, in case of a drop maximum damage will be to the large display.

As per standard Lumia design, the volume control, power key and dedicated camera button are located on the right rim of the device. The standard 3.5 mm audio port is on the top while the micro USB port is at the bottom center.

Though the Lumia 625 bears a 4.7 inch display, it sits comfortably in the hand-maybe because we have lately been used to large screen devices. The shell has a fine matte finish that provides a decent grip, but we really hope for textured shell designs in future Lumia models for a better grip. Also, it is not that big that it would peek out of the trouser pockets but is certainly large for the breast-pockets. Nokia has cracked the beautifully simple yet fun looking smartphone design with its Lumia series of devices. However, the mash-up of devices with similar appearance kinds of gives the deja-vu feeling.
Display and hardware
With a 4.7 inch 24-bit IPS LCD panel, the touchscreen offers multi-touch and pleasant viewing angles. However, the native 480 x 800 pixel resolution might bother those who are blinded by 720p HD and 1080p HD high-end smartphones. Also, the bumped up screen size demands higher resolution support but Nokia decided to lock it down to 480 x 800 pixel. Nokia has constructed the display using Corning Gorilla Glass 2 technology to make it thinner and stronger to fight normal scratches.

This display does not include Nokia ClearBlack technology layer to prevent reflection and give darker blacks. Instead, Nokia has offered the Sensitive Touch technology to make the display usable even with gloves. We do welcome the bigger display, though it lacks the finesse and crispness of other Lumia devices. Unfortunately, the next step from 480 x 800 pixel to higher resolution is directly 1280 x 768 pixel, or 1280 x 720 pixel; so there is no middle path for crispness.

Nokia has powered the Lumia 625 with a dual core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8930 mobile processor with Adreno 305 graphics chip and only 512 MB RAM. Apparently, the same graphics and RAM combination has been used in the Lumia 720, Lumia 520 and Lumia 620. What was really surprising was that the Lumia 625 has been touted as a different device but it does not have 1 GB RAM. Sure, the different processor did make things slightly more responsive compared to other devices but we shall refrain from saying it was fast.

Surprisingly, even Lumia 625 has only 8 GB on-board storage. However, Nokia has offered a memory card to support up to a 64 GB micro SD card. The 7 GB free Sky Drive cloud storage with the official app is more like a consolation prize. For entertainment, the FM radio comes handy post the Amber update and there is the Nokia Mix Radio that offers music and downloads with Nokia Music subscription. The Lumia 625 delivers decent location based services through the GPS chip that has A-GPS and Glonass support for faster location lock.

Nokia has also implemented active noise cancellation with the dedicated mic that helps in enjoying decent voice calls.
Operating system
Nokia offers the Lumia 625 with the new Lumia Amber update, including the Windows Phone 8 GDR2. Meanwhile, the user interface remains the same - simple and easy to navigate.

The keyboard is very comfortable and adaptive. However, it does leave some space when used in landscape mode. Several email accounts can be used to enjoy reading emails in a unified inbox. Apart from that, the Data Sense app gives a fair overview of mobile data usage by the device.

Several pre-loaded apps make it usable right out of the box, including Bigflix, BookMyShow, Cosmopolitan, Flipkart eBooks, Trip Advisor and Zomato. Such apps certainly ease the entertainment and travel woes of users. The MS Office Suite features make it quite competitive, with an Office 365 subscription to boost productivity on the move. Nokia Music does a fantastic job of keeping us entertained and Nokia Mix Radio is one interesting service for discovering new songs. Of course, we do possess the music subscription.

Nokia HERE (previously Maps) is one of the strong points that boosts a smooth mapping experience. Nokia HERE Drive offers turn by turn navigation and it can also be voice guided. The City Lens app brings augmented reality on the relatively small screen of this device, offering a computer generated mapped view to the real-world camera stream.

Social networking was taken care of by the Twitter and Facebook apps downloadable from the Windows Phone Store. Despite the great hardware, it misses out on the latest games due to lack of enough RAM and enough processing power. The popular new games stutter and fail to run smoothly on this smartphone. So if gaming is one of the features you are looking for, you will be disappointed. Learn more about the new Lumia Amber update here.

Camera
Nokia's new Amber update makes image processing much better. The Nokia Lumia 625 features a 5 megapixel camera. It has LED flash, auto-focus and a two-stage dedicate camera key. With the f/2.4 aperture, the camera's closest focus range is 10 cm. The touchscreen display acts as a large viewfinder and one has to touch the display to make the camera focus on a particular area. The camera app offers photo settings primarily set at default - scenes, ISO, exposure value, white balance, aspect ratio and focus assist light. Images deliver nice contrast and fairly saturated colours.

The camera gives decent performance in a well-lit environment in the day time. However, it fails to impress in low and dim light environments where noise creeps in. Optical image stabilization has not been added and the results of low light imaging are not that great.

Nokia has added four lens softwares pre-loaded with the camera app for image manipulation: bing vision, panorama, cinematograph and smart shoot. Smart shoot is a kind of burst mode for multiple images and the user gets to choose the best. With the Amber update there is a Smart Cam app to enjoy features such as best shot, action shot, motion focus, changing faces and removing objects. Unfortunately, it will not have the Pro camera app that is available to the Lumia 9xx series and higher devices.

The front facing VGA camera also has f/2.8 aperature but offers 640 x 480 pixel resolution. This camera can be used for quick video chats and clicking selfies - self portraits.

Multimedia
The speaker at the back has a very small outlet. It is not loud enough to wake you up from sleep. The Nokia Music Store and the Nokia Mix Radio can keep one entertained all the time. The music player also brings along software equalization presets to suit the needs of the listener. Sound quality too is decent and ideal for casual music lovers.

The Lumia 625 can playback MP4 and DivX files smoothly to make watching videos fun. Yet again, we shall mention that Microsoft needs to make the video player more capable of supporting a variety of video formats and adding more options such as subtitles. Photo Hub plays photos like a breeze. The sound output and better audio quality can be delivered with the same hardware. Listening to voice guided navigation is fun and quite helpful while driving.
Battery
Nokia has used a large display. We expected a bit of a bump in the battery capacity too considering the 4G LTE network support. Using the phone normally to check emails, browse the web and social media along with some entertainment gave a fair runtime of about fourteen and half hours approximately. We had switched off the battery Saver feature from Settings to get a more real world usage view. Also, the brightness of the display was set to automatic. Those who enable the battery Saver and push the brightness to maximum might see a runtime of about thirteen to fourteen hours. Nokia has packed a 2000 mAh non-removable battery. That might be an issue for many and is odd since the shell is removable but the battery is not.

Final Words
Nokia Lumia 625 with Windows Phone 8 is priced for Rs 19,999 but one can always purchase it for less. However, that discount will not include the benefits worth Rs 16,082 from Nokia, Flipkart, Ozone and Tata Docomo. More details can be found on the product page. Nokia Lumia 625 is decent for those who want a slightly large screen but within a limited budget. It is ideal for those who have been using strict budget feature phones and want to enjoy good smartphone features. Gaming might disappoint a few folks but the phone makes up for that with other Nokia Lumia Exclusive offerings.

Lumia 625 is for those who aspire for a stylish smartphone with a big display, faster mobile data connectivity and most modern features.

View the original article here
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6653845240390313182.post-20668656433456817512013-10-10T22:18:00.000-07:002013-10-10T22:18:00.595-07:00Apple iOS 7 Review : A Major Makeover That Delivers, But Takes
This is a big week for Apple; it has two new phones hitting store shelves, and a brand new operating system that becomes available Sept. 18 for compatible devices. The new mobile operating system is a big visual change, and is likely to feel somewhat disorienting to users upgrading from iOS 6, but in most important ways, it’s not that dissimilar from what you’re used to, and many of the changes are definitely for the best.

If you’re coming brand new to iOS 7 and have been ignoring the Internet for the past three months, you’re going to be in for a visual shock. Apple has completely overhauled the look of iOS with version 7, starting from the lock screen and extending to the icons of default apps, system fonts, status bar indicators, system elements like Notification Center and more. There are new sounds, too, including ringtones and notification cues, in case a host of new info for your eyeballs to process wasn’t enough.

The look is bound to be controversial; Apple has opted for bright, bold colors with more clean lines and far fewer textures, shadows and gradients. There is still some depth to the OS, however, with transparency effects giving a sense of background and foreground elements (the dock row is an opaque rectangle through which your home screen wallpaper is visible, for instance).

Apple’s visual overhaul received a lot of knee-jerk criticism when it was revealed at WWDC earlier this year, but in practice, the visual changes are actually quite pleasant, and grow on a user with time. Looking back now, iOS 6 feels dated, despite the fact that when I first started using iOS 7 I felt it was inferior in terms of look and feel to the older OS. Apple’s new look with iOS 7 takes acclimating, but on the whole, it’s an improvement.

This is a brand new feature for iOS 7, and one that’s incredibly useful. The Control Center provides quick access to commonly-used settings toggles including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Rotation Lock and Do Not Disturb mode, as well as to the media player controls, AirDrop and AirPlay, and some key apps including Calculator, Timer and Camera. There’s also a flashlight, which may sink a thousand small app developer ships, but which is a huge convenience for users.

Control Center simplifies and makes much more useful what was a somewhat confusingly arranged media player/AirPlay/brightness & volume control quick access feature attached to the app drawer in iOS 6. Separating it from that function and making it accessible throughout the iOS user interface via a simple swipe up from bottom is a really big improvement.

Apple’s AirDrop feature made its debut on the Mac, as a feature addition to OS X. Now the simple sharing service makes its mobile debut, allowing them to share files with anyone on the same network with a single tap. The recipient then approves the request, and the file is added to their own iPhone.

It’s a very easy method for sharing pictures from one device to a family member’s or friend’s, and requires fewer steps than sending an email. You can make AirDrop available to anyone on your current network, or lock it down to just your Contacts. This feature is great, but leaves me wishing Apple had set it up to work between iOS and Mac, which isn’t yet possible.

Aside from a visual update, like the one everything in iOS 7 is getting, Siri adds new voices designed to make it seem more human, and additional data sources including Bing, Wikipedia and Twitter. It can now return phone calls, playback voicemail and generally do more that you’d like a hands-free assistant to be able to do, perhaps while driving, for instance.

The additions to Siri have prompted Apple to remove its beta tag, and indeed it does seem more generally useful, and pushes you out to exterior sources far less frequently, which is good because it leads to far less of a “let me Google that for you” effect. I’m not sure Siri is quite the virtual assistant I want it to be just yet, but it’s getting there.

Apple’s multitasking hasn’t been great in the past, acting basically as a quick app switcher. In iOS 7, the multitasking gets smarter, learning your habits and updating content in the background depending on when you regularly use your apps, and when you’re connected to power and Wi-Fi, so as to avoid data and energy burn.

The new app switcher design is also much better, showing you a preview of the app in the state it was in at close, rather than just a completely static app icon that tells you nothing at all. Swipe up to close open apps from this screen. These features may be familiar to webOS users, but they’re smart, no matter where they came from.

Apple’s mobile web browser gets an overhaul with iOS 7, one which lets the chrome melt into the background. When you’re on a page, the address bar and bottom navigation bar fade away, giving you a full-screen experience. The address bar is also finally a unified search bar, too, which is cause enough to break out the piñata and celebrate.

Apple has also put a private browser right in the main app, meaning you won’t have to go to Settings every time you want to get incognito, and there’s a new tab browser that lets you page through and view multiple open tabs at once much more easily. Shared links uses the built-in iOS Twitter integration to gather a reading list from the people you follow on that social network, which is a nice built-in content discovery twist.

Apple’s iOS camera software is brand new in 7, with an interface that brings all modes out into the open instead of hiding features behind buttons. Even though everything’s now a scroll away at most, the interface is very different from the one it replaces, and this could cause some hiccups for new users.

The key component to be aware of is the new slider for different camera functions – video at the far left, and panorama at the far right. It may not be immediately apparent that this list of modes is itself scrollable, as there’s no obvious arrows or control buttons.

Other changes here are the presence of live filters, which you can apply before filming, and the ability to take burst shots and slow motion video on the iPhone 5s. All phones capable of installing iOS 7 get a variant of burst mode, in fact, which takes pictures in rapid succession, but not at the 10fps rate of the iPhone 5s, and without the auto selection feature that suggests which shot is best.

In the 5s, people will really notice a difference with much faster auto-focus, faster capture and other improvements.

Apple’s new photos app applies some basic organizational logic to your picture library, making it easier to find specific moments, and to browse based on locations and date, which is much better than having to organize events yourself. You can zoom out and see your entire history of mobile photos as measured in years, too.

Other improvements include the addition of a shared photo album tab, which works with iCloud photo sharing, and photo maps that allow you to browse your picture history on a built-in Apple Map. It’s a lot more interesting than the fairly boring interface it replaces.

iTunes is the leading source of digital music content, so Apple introducing iTunes radio, a no-limits streaming service available free via an ad-supported model, or without ads if you’re an iTunes Match subscriber is a big deal. This is a U.S. account-holder only service, so international iOS 7 users will have to wait, probably until licensing agreements are put in place.

The recommendations iTunes Radio serves up based on genres and artists I like were very (frighteningly?) accurate, and that makes for a thoroughly enjoyable lean-back listening experience. I’m still an Rdio fan when it comes to streaming music services, and their new personalized radio stations are also impressive, but Apple will provide everything most users need in custom Internet radio with this new feature, which is also available in an upcoming iTunes update on the desktop.

The new Notification Center in iOS 7 is a big change from the previous version. There’s a new “Today” panel that shows you events and birthdays going on for any given day, as well as weather conditions, stocks, and upcoming things to note for the next day, including alarms and calendar events.

Swiping brings you to the list of “All” and “Missed” notifications, which shows you things sent by your apps, either in total, or just those that are new since the last time you checked your device. In settings, you can turn off or on each element of the “Today” view, and limit lock screen access to both that and your general notifications list.

Today is a part of notification center that has some real potential, especially if Apple broadens its functions and makes it more of a Google Now competitor, but overall the Notification Center update isn’t all that exciting. Notifications themselves still seem mostly not super useful, so perhaps providing more context or similar is the way to go.

Apple has provided some small updates to the App Store and to Find My iPhone with iOS 7, including tools that make it easier to protect and recover lost or stolen devices.

The App Store has a new “Popular near me” feature, which so far hasn’t been showing all that much beyond transit apps based on my location. It’s another way of making discovery easier on the iPhone’s ever-growing software library, though, and with use it’ll likely get more intelligent. Plus, if you’re a visitor looking for relevant apps in a new spot, transit information apps would be high on the list.

Find My iPhone gets new advanced security features, like the inability to wipe or turn off Find My iPhone without an Apple ID or password. It can also display a message on a device that’s been wiped, so you don’t need to choose between trying to recover your lost hardware and protecting your data. Plus, anyone with your phone will have to enter your Apple ID and password to make it usable again. All of these are great features that address the growing savvy of criminals around Find My iPhone and how to circumvent it.

There’s a lot more going on in iOS 7, including new sounds, dynamic wallpapers, changes to the design of Calendar, Notes, Reminders and more, but the big shifts that go beyond new design are those listed above. There’s no question that iOS 7 will be a dramatic change from the iOS many users already know and love, but on balance it’s an update packed with plenty of new features that make using Apple’s mobile devices easier and more enjoyable.

iOS users with an iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini and iPod touch (5th generation) will be able to download the update, but Apple hasn’t put a specific time on when exactly, so watch this space for updates.

View the original article here
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6653845240390313182.post-62458087715890226932013-10-10T16:13:00.000-07:002013-10-10T16:13:00.400-07:00Spice Boss Dura 4 M5251 Long Backup Stylish Feature Mobile

Spice Boss Dura 4 M-5251 Mobile Key Features :
2.2 inches displayDual SIM support1.3MP camera with video recordingGPRS/Bluetooth connectivityFM radio with multimedia player

Technical Specifications for Spice Boss Dura 4 M-5251Inside the Mobile box:Spice Boss Dura 4 M-5251 handset, Battery, Charger, Data cable, Headset, User guideOthers:Alarm, clock, calender, calculator

Spice Boss Dura 4 M-5251 Price in India : Rs.1,449
Spice Boss Dura 4 M-5251 Price in India on 25 Sep 2013 storepricestockdelivery timego to store

View the original article here
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6653845240390313182.post-8528924014453440812013-10-10T05:34:00.000-07:002013-10-10T05:34:01.092-07:00Panasonic P11 Specifications, Full Specs Review
The Tech2 Labs receives many products every single week and each of them is tested with the utmost care and highest level of objectivity.

View the original article here
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6653845240390313182.post-39189454815313498552013-10-07T21:55:00.000-07:002013-10-07T21:55:00.896-07:00Infibeam Launches the Sony Xperia Z1 with a High ... - Mobile India Sony is giving tough competition to all the other mobile manufacturers. First it created a unibody marvel called HTC One; then its HTC 8X is another fine example of this design feature.

Well, carrying that legacy forward, HTC has recently launched the Desire 600 for Rs 27,000 which, though it does not have a unibody design, is made to look like it does. Here is a detailed account of HTC Desire 600's design and functioning, which will give you a decent idea whether to buy this handset or not.
Look and feel
The Desire 600 is light and sleek; it measures 9.2 mm at the thickest point. The smartphone comes with a removable back cover, underneath which you will find a memory card slot, a removable battery and two SIM slots. The HTC Desire 600 has tapered-off edges on the top and the bottom, where there are stereo speakers, much like the HTC One but yes the use of plastic as opposed to metal surely has a negative effect on the visual appeal of the device.

The HTC Desire 600 is available in mainly two colours - Polar White and Stealth Black. The handset features a matte-finish that runs from the edges, making it smudge resistant while the unibody-like design makes it look slim.

The power/standby key is located at the top and is quite easy to reach as it measures only 4.5 inches and thus has a smallish profile. The right side houses the volume rocker, which is very easy to use. At the front the device has a flush finish and two capacitive touch keys for home and return; most Android devices feature three keys with the third being the options key, which is missing in the HTC Desire 600.

However, HTC has made upgrades in the Sense 5.0 user interface that runs on the HTC Desire 600, to accommodate that change.

The overall build quality of the device is good; it's sturdy and can handle accidental falls quite well. The protective glass surface on the display, though it is not Gorilla Glass, is good for protection from scratches as well. we are quite happy with the way the device has been designed and with its build quality as well.
Display and touch
The HTC Desire 600 has a 4.5 inch Super LCD 2 display with 520 x 960 pixel resolution, which translates to 245 ppi (pixel density). So despite it not having high definition resolution, which is becoming over-used by manufacturers to grab eye-balls, the HTC Desire 600's display is a delight for the eyes. The brightness level of its display is adequate even in bright sunlight.

The colour reproduction and black levels are good and the picture quality offered by the display is sharp and vibrant. In fact it has better and much more subtle colour reproduction than the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, its closest competitor, which suffers due to over saturation of colour.

The response of the HTC Desire 600's touchscreen is also fabulous; every touch and gesture no matter how faint gets recognised and it becomes all the more delightful in conjunction with the HTC BlinkFeed.
Hardware and performance
The HTC Desire 600 is powered by a 1.2 GHz, quad core Snapdragon S200 processor and Adreno 203 GPU. The processor is capable of powering the device and handling most of its action with ease. The phone features 1 GB RAM and 8 GB of internal storage which works great for all applications, and there is a memory card slot to accommodate up to 64 GB of additional memory as well.

The HTC Desire 600 offers good performance but not like the performance of HTC's high end handsets, which reflects in its benchmarking results as well. On the Antutu benchmark, the HTC Desire 600 scored 11547, putting it above the much older Samsung Galaxy SII, which is a dual core processor, but much below its quad core competitors. In Vellamo, which is a benchmark application from Qualcomm, it scored 387 points in the metal or hardware test and 1587 points in the HTML test, which confirms that for browsing and web applications it is a pretty good device. Overall the scores confirm that the HTC Desire 600 is an average performer in terms of benchmark scores.

The call performance of this device is a major plus point. Calls are received and made without any issue. The earpiece and loudspeaker volume is abundant and the microphone also makes sure the person at the other end hears every word loud and clear. The HTC Desire 600 features dual SIM-dual standby system, which means that users can get calls on both the numbers simultaneously, while the user will have to decide whether they wish to reject or accept the other call. One observation is that even when a call is on, the phone rings when a new call is received on the other SIM.
Operating system
HTC Desire 600 features Google Android Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system with HTC's very own Sense 5 user interface on top of it. The Sense 5 user interface comes with a home screen, called BlinkFeed. The BlinkFeed interface consists of tiles in the home screen, similar to what is seen in Windows OS based smartphones that update feeds automatically from mail, calendar and social media. You can configure BlinkFeed to show content from social networks as well as over 1,400 specific providers, including the Associated Press and ESPN.

The overall experience of Jelly Bean operating system on Desire 600 is fast and fluid, thanks to its 1 GB RAM.
Camera and multimedia
At the back of HTC Desire 600 there is an 8 megapixel camera with a 1/3.2 inch sensor and F/2.0 aperture and wide 28 mm field of view which is a delight for users. The 8 megapixel camera is good and offers great variance in colours but sadly video recording is just limited to 720p HD video recording at a slow 24 fps as the Snapdragon 200 processor has limited capabilities.

The image quality of the camera is good both outdoor and indoors, provided the lighting is sufficient. The LED flash comes on whenever needed, but is only effective for close objects. The colours are captured nicely and with detail too.

All this has been made possible with HTC's dedicated imaging chip that does the job of improving images while users capture them. Along with that the front camera has a 1.6 megapixel sensor, which is great for self-portraits as well as video calling and conferencing.

The HTC Desire 600 features a more than capable audio and video player along with stereo FM radio reception as well. Its loudspeaker is a big plus for the device and the integrated Beats Audio technology proves to be icing on the cake.
Overall
The HTC Desire comes with a functional but great looking design and offers hardware for the price of Rs 27,000. At this price devices from Samsung such as the Galaxy S3 or the Galaxy S4 Mini can also be considered if you are not an HTC fan.
