Businesses are under an increasing threat from cyber criminals,with more and more employees carrying vital company informationaround on their mobile phones.
Managing Director of Unisys New Zealand Brett Hodgson told TVONE's Breakfast that a large number of employees are now havingimportant emails and other information sent direct to theircellphones.
He said despite the increase most people do not have anysecurity settings on their phones, opening their company andthemselves up to criminal activity or identity theft.
"The modern phone is actually a computer, but we seem to betreating it still as a mobile phone."
He said 60% of mobile phone users do not even have the mostbasic security measure in place - a password or pin number accessto their mobile.
The introduction of smartphones to the market has heightened therisk, with many work mobiles having email and internetcapabilities.
"The proliferation [of smartphones] and the growth of those isthe significant contributor," he said.
But that does not mean regular phones are safe.
